STATEMENT
I am a visual creative and an ambitious dreamer inspired mostly by nature and water. You will never find me far from the sea; this is my happy place and where I find a moment of calmness. Painting is a place for me to get completely lost in my thoughts, imagination and emotions. It is a game of balance and finding harmony in the composition and colours. Like my name Tamasine, BOKET(T)O is also Japanese meaning to daydream and to get lost in thought; a philosophy which resonates with me.
My approach to painting is through layering, experimenting with different materials such as acrylic and oil paint mixed with sand on raw canvas, recycled linen and rice paper to create interesting textures. Layers of shapes that overlap or almost touch often with a delicate accent to create balance in the composition. My work is a combination of natural materials, warm tones and the technique of mixed media for that perfectly imperfect result.
With my background in interior design I like to create art with purpose and soul. I believe that art plays a big role in making a space complete. It is a story, an experience and a timeless possession that you can get completely lost in. I am an aesthete at heart and naturally Scandinavia and Japan (aka Japandi) are a big inspiration to me. Miles apart yet similar in so many ways. Both cultures have a special relationship with nature, a building tradition based on craftmanship and a unique minimalistic appeal. Both are particular about detail but prefer the raw beauty and unadorned aesthetic. I am particularly fascinated by the Japanese principle of ‘wabi sabi’; finding the beauty in imperfection. Just like nature; none of it is perfect but all of it is beautiful.
